Mitsubishi Electric previews new Smart Carriage for linear transfer systems at SPS IPC Drives

Visitors to SPS IPC Drives 2016 had the first chance to see a brand new Smart Carriage technology from Mitsubishi Electric and APT Automation. Developed to operate with a dedicated linear transfer system, the Smart Carriage delivers on-board intelligence plus integrated power for on-carriage equipment. It also supports the ability to switch between parallel tracks on production lines allowing multiple operations on different products.

Mitsubishi Electric delivers Edge Computing solutions within its e-F@ctory strategy

At SPS IPC Drives 2016, Mitsubishi Electric highlighted its solutions for Edge Computing and support for Cloud Computing as businesses look to reap the benefits of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The Edge Computing solutions are built on local control platforms to provide filtering and pre-processing of production data from intelligent devices, and at the same time facilitate communications to a broad range of standard and niche cloud services.

Web server functionality and 100Mbit Ethernet interface available with Mitsubishi Electric Inverter FR-A800-E

Mitsubishi Electric previewed the new inverter FR-A800-E at this year’s SPS IPC Drives show. It is based on its FR-A800 series variable speed drives with an integrated web server and 100Mbit Ethernet TCP/IP connectivity as standard. The new features are in addition to the FR-A800 series’ already extensive network connectivity options, providing machine builders and systems integrators with increased functionality for remote system monitoring and parameter adjustment, as well as easier integration into existing network environments. The drive will also be launched with a new App that provides engineers and end users with a range of control and monitoring options from a mobile device.

A holistic approach to predictive maintenance

Mitsubishi Electric demonstrated a further development of its condition monitoring technology for predictive maintenance at SPS IPC Drives 2016. The solution builds on the capabilities of add-on smart sensors by integrating them with an intelligent sensor controller for a more holistic approach to condition monitoring. The Smart Condition Monitoring (SCM) solution complements ‘traffic light’ alerts with detailed diagnostics, in-depth analysis and recommended actions to minimise unscheduled downtime and maximise asset availability.

New C80 CPU unit enables full CNC production line integration

The new C80 CNC CPU unit mounts alongside an iQ-R Series PLC’s existing modules, allowing nanometre scale control over machine tool functions. When applied as part of an iQ-R Platform it contributes toward integrated control over an entire manufacturing production line. Not only does this improve overall performance, but due to ease of integration and a common programming environment - GX Works3 it can save a considerable amount of time in the design and commissioning phase. Being faster to install and commission reduces set-up costs, while replacing on-machine controls with a full Mitsubishi Electric arrangement can also reduce hardware costs when used to control a CNC production line for example.

What we also presented at SPS/IPC/Drives 2016

At SPS show Mitsubishi Electric showcasted many more technical innovations which address different application demands on a production level, alongside specific sector solutions for Automotive, Food & Beverage, Water Utilities and Life Science. All exhibits were aligned with meeting increased overall efficiency and cost reduction targets, while providing the answers to specific challenges such as, traceability, quality, safety and sustainability.
